Arriving in the Netherlands Travel from Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol) to the Hague Central Station (Den Haag Centraal)
1. There is fast, frequent and cheap rail service from Amsterdam airport to The Hague Central Station. On coming out of the Arrivals Hall, you will walk straight into “Schiphol Plaza” which is also the train station.
2. Ticket booths will be located to your right (next to the Police Station and Starbucks Coffee).
3. Obtain a second-class ticket to “Den Haag Centraal” (the Hague Central Station). You can buy a ticket from one of the ticket desks. If you have a credit card or European debit card (Maestro) you can use the yellow ticket machines that are scattered throughout the station hall.
4. Be careful not to select any of the discount options: they are only valid in combination with other cards, which you most likely do not possess.
5. Local travel expenses are covered by the conference budget, so make sure to save the ticket.
6. A one-way 2nd class ticket will cost approximately 8 euros. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes, and fast trains leave at 28 and 58 after the hour.
UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, THERE IS NO SHUTTLE SERVICE FROM THE HAGUE CENTRAL STATION TO THE HOTEL !
From Den Haag (The Hague) Central Station to the Golden Tulip Bel Air Hotel by taxi.
A taxi will cost approximately 15 euros. The taxi station is located outside the station (follow the signs).
From Den Haag (The Hague) Central Station to the Golden Tulip Bel Air Hotel by public transportation.
1. Tram no. 17 runs every 10 minutes (15 min ride, get out at “Gemeentemuseum/Museon” (point A on map), which is a 4 min walk to the hotel).
2. The tramstop is located outside the station (take the exit to the left).
3. A strip card (bus ticket) can be bought at the public transport desk at the station. A 15-strip card costs approximately 7 euro, and the trip to the Gemeentemuseum/Museon stop is 3 strips on the strip card.
Arriving in the Netherlands at night time
1. During night time there is no direct train service to The Hague Central Station, only a night train service is maintained.
2. If you are arriving from 1am to 5am, choose The Hague Hollands Spoor (The Hague HS) as your final destination.
3. Upon arrival, look for a taxi and ask the driver to take you to Golden Tulip Bel Air Hotel.
If you prefer to take a taxi from Schiphol Airport to the Golden Tulip Bel Air Hotel at your own expense, this can be arranged with the hotel.
Resources
Look on the English website of NS (Dutch Rail Service) for information on traveling by train in the Netherlands. Absolutely essential is the Journey Planner (accessible from the main page). To plan your trip to the Hague enter “Schiphol” as departure station and “Den Haag Centraal” as destination. Enter the proper date and time. Remember to allow for 30 minutes or so to retrieve your luggage and pass through customs. If you have trouble deciphering the Journey Planner let us know so we can help you finding the right train.
Another highlight of the NS website is the ticket machine simulator. If you plan to use the machine to buy your ticket this gives you an opportunity to practice! Just like the real ticket machine it starts off in Dutch, but you can set it to English by clicking the British flag in the bottom-left corner.
